All individual junior members fire for National Rifle Association ratings, badges, and brassards, from beginner Marksman through Distinguished Expert. Junior teams may travel to indoor and outdoor competition, national sectional, regional matches and state matches.
The Rochester Rifle Club Juniors shoot most matches at their home range. The club sponsors USA Junior Olympic Championships (3 position and air pistol), NRA National Sectional Championships (three position, four position, and air rifle), and New York State Rifle & Pistol Association events; covering all disciplines.
The curriculum emphasizes responsibility and safety, general firearm safety, hunting safety and range safety put into practice. Aiming, trigger control, use of the sling and position shooting are taught with plenty of supervised firing.
Meeting night is Sunday (with additional practice available Tuesday evenings) during the school year from mid September through April.
Our program is open to boys and girls 12 to 20 years of age who are graduates of the NRA Basic Marksmanship Course (taught at the Rochester Rifle Club). Each year the club has an "Open House" in the mid/late September time frame. 22 caliber long rifle target models in various weights are provided by the club for members at the club, who do not have their own rifle.
